This K-12 school was designed for the Hamlet of Tulita and was created to be an adaptable learning environment where a variety of education and training activities can take place.

School attendance rates had been low in this community, which was linked to residents' discomfort with the existing school's standard layout, including closed-off, somewhat claustrophobic hallways and classrooms. The new design therefore prioritized transparency, natural lighting, passive supervision principles and open layouts.

 

Following the opening of the new facility, attendance as well as staff retention improved. The community now uses the building to host gatherings, sporting events, and classes outside of the school's regular hours.
